
The UPNG School f Business and Public Policy (SBPP) is the youngest School was established in the year 2002. One of the five (5) Schools in the University (other being, School of Humanities & Social Sciences (SHSS), School of Natural & Physical Sciences, School of Medicine & Health Sciences and School of Law (SOL), the School of Business and Public Policy is geared towards fulfilling UPNG’s vision of equipping students with appropriate skills and knowledge in the fields of Business and Public Policy is geared towards fulfilling UPNG’s vision of equipping students with appropriate skills and knowledge in the fields of Business and Public Policy Management.

The School has a full complement of highly qualified teaching and research staff in various programs. Our programs are continually being appraised externally in Canada, Europe, India, Singapore, Philippine, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia as well as by the Industry in Papua New Guinea (PNG), for it’s industry relevance and focus.

Business and Management Foundation Program
Admission to the academic programs is very competitive and potential students are requested to read this section very carefully.
All interested applicants of undergraduate programs of the School will apply for “Business and Management Foundation “ Program.
Eligibility
The following are the minimum eligibility criteria to apply into Foundation of Business and Management Program:
- A valid Grade 12 certificate or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 1.80 (For External (Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode students ONLY) by fulfilling the following conditions:
- Applicants should have already completed Grade 12 or will be completing Grade 12 in the preceding year prior to admission:
Applicant should have obtained:
- “C” or better grade in Language & Literature or Advanced English
- “C” or better grade in Advanced Mathematics or “B” in Grade in General Mathematics and
- “C” or better grade in three (3) of the following subjects only: Economics, Accounting, Business Studies, History, Geography, Legal Studies, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
C. In order to be eligible to apply for BMFY program, through External (Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, minimum Point Average (GPA) is 1.80, calculated from the five (5) subjects, which are mentioned under item (b) above.
D. Student quota: No specific student quota is available for external mode of study. However, the number of seats will vary depending on the capacity of the University. The University reserves the right to decide quota, every year.
Application for Admission
Those who are interested to apply for any program at the School of Business and Public Policy, need to make an exclusive application to the School.
“It is important to note that, students who are selected/admitted into any program of other school(s), are not allowed to change admission or stream into any program at SBPP”.
For example,, if anyone is admitted/selected for a program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, he/she is required to enroll into the program in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. As directed by the by-laws of the University, no one is allowed to stream into any program other than for which one is selected.

Progression from Business and Management Foundation Year to Year 2/2nd Year of Studies.
On successful completion of all the courses of Business and Management Foundation Year (BMFY) program, a student, who is enrolled through Open College (External), can choose any one of the following options, subject to fulfilling criteria set by the University, to continue to year 2 of study:
- Diploma in Accounting (D.Acc)
- Diploma in Business and Management (DIBM)
Those students who are pursuing their studies through open college are given leniency, compared to internal students, while selecting a specific program during 2 year of study. This leniency is not applicable to students who are pursuing their studies through internal mode.
Diploma in Accounting (D.Acc)
Successful completion of all the courses of Business and Management Foundation Year with a minimum of “Pass Grade” in both Introductory Accounting and Applied Finite Mathematics can only apply to continue to Diploma in Accounting Program.
