IBS University Launches New Book on Taxation in PNG

IBS University Launches Book "PNG Taxation"

The Institute of Business Studies University launched a new book titled “PNG Taxation”. The launching  was held IBS University Erima Campus in Port Moresby. It was witnessed by IBS University Vice Chancellor  Dr. Arunachalam, Chancellor Gabriel Pepson, Internal Revenue Learning and Development, Human Resource Director Thomas Magiuli.

The book was written by Mr.Joseph Palim, was a former academic and Bursar at the University of Papua New Guinea and currently working as Advisor to the Autonomous Bougainville Government on its financial managements system under the PNG-Australia Bougainville partnership program.

IBS University Vice Chancellor Dr.Ramachandran Arunachalam told the gathering that Mr. Palimi as vast and broad experience in the field of accounting, major research for international and national projects management skills has enabled him to effectively compile the taxation book on the context of Papua New Guinea. PNG Taxation laws have changed overtime with the enactment of new tax legislations, including the annual national budget passed in parliament every year.  The book aims to update the readers about the income tax laws and practices in the country.

Mr. Magiuli on behalf the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) Commissioner, Mr.Sam Koim highlighted that tax payers awareness is a very big issue in the country and therefore people need to understand taxation  and urged everyone to take time to read the book. PNG’s tax system is quite complicated and the book will great help in educating masses of people about it. Particularly students who are taking courses in Accounting, Business and Management related courses in PNG’s Higher learning institutions.

The book was published with support from IBS University; relevant information extracted from the book “Taxation in PNG” by Edgar O’Neil who had given his permission for UPNG and IBSU to use the textbook.

IBS will us the book will be used as an additional text book for IBSU’s for teaching and learning for those who are studying taxation related field of study.

Taxation is a challenging subject to teach in many higher learning institutions because it requires correct local contextualized content and this book is set to help to reflect the current laws and changes that have happened in PNG over the years.
