Kundiawa Nursing College (KNC) Gets Accreditation Certification from Nursing Council of PNG

Accreditation Certification by PNG Nursing Council of PNG.

Kundiawa Nursing College (KNC) was officially accredited as one of Papua New Guinea’s accredited Nursing College in Papua New Guinea.

Nursing Council of Papua New Guinea president Mr.Peter Pindan officially presented the Accreditation  Certificate to the college on Friday 29th of May 2020. The event was witnessed by Chimbu Provincial Governor, Hon. Michael Dua, representatives from Sir Joseph Nombri Memorial Hospital in Kundiawa, Simbu Provincial Health Authority officials, stakeholders and community members. The college was established two years ago and this year (2020) they will have the first bath of 3rd year students. Mr. Pindan has assured the 3rd Year students that they would be granted their nursing practice license next year March after they graduate.

The college officially commenced it’s academic program as a in  July 2019. 

Nursing Provisional License for Nursing College Graduates

According to documents posted on PNG Department of Health under the Nursing Council of PNG, all final year students at any Nursing Colleges are to apply for Nursing Provisional License to practice.  If the application is successful, the License will be send to the Nursing College or institution for collection. Then the individual graduate will work under a supervisor in any hospital in PNG. The supervisor will would mentor and assist him/her to acquire the  essential nursing or midwifery clinical competency skills for a period of six (6) months. After the completion of the six months supervised training, they can would apply for a full license to practice as a nurse or midwife in Papua New Guinea. This is a requirement under the Medical Act 1980 in Papua New Guinea.

Professional Conduct of Nurses in PNG

Once the nurses and midwives are granted Full Licenses to practice, their professional conduct is guided by the PNG NC Code of Professional Conduct of Nurses in PNG as the Papua New Guinea Nursing Competency Standards and the Code of Ethics for Nurses in PNG.
