
Citizens of PAPUA NEW GUINEA are invited to apply for the above scholarships, which will be awarded for FULL TIME studies at certificate, diploma, undergraduate levels. Awards are tenable at accredited tertiary institutions in Forum Island Countries (FICs). Awards will be made for Mandarin language training in Taiwan/Republic of China (Taiwan/ROC) to prepare for a programme of study undergraduate or postgraduate level. The Scholarship
Covers tuition fees, text book, living and accommodation allowances(*special conditions apply for the accommodation allowance), medical allowance (in the case of Taiwan/ROC, medical insurance one year of Mandarin language training), and one return economy airfare to the country of study.
Note: There are no allowances for dependents.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen of Papua New Guinea and a resident in Papua New Guinea for five years prior to application, excluding years of study overseas;
- Be applying to commence a new program of study and not be seeking support for study already commenced.
- For tertiary institutions in FICs, must have been accepted into a program of study and institution, or should show proof of application when requested. If you receive a conditional scholarship offer, you MUST confirm an offer of placement no later than January 2020. Your offer will be suspended if you do not have a confirmed placement by this time;
- For tertiary institutions in Taiwan/ROC, must provide academic record of highest qualification held, and indicate preferred field of study. (NB: academic year begins in September, and continuation of study following Mandarin training is conditional on acceptance into a program ).
- Be under 35 years old for an undergraduate program or under 40 years for a post graduate program.
- Be in good health, and not hold a criminal record;
- Be able to take up the award within the scholarship year of offer.
- Not to be under any bonding requirements at the commencements of this award.
Priority Study Fields For Papua New
- Agriculture
- Socio-Economic Sectors (Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Education, Health, Public Policy and Administration, International Relations and Diplomacy(IRD) and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT)
- Climate Change (Disaster Risk Reduction)/Management
Applications for study in fields of aquaculture and vocational training will also be accepted.
Selection Criteria
Based on the fulfillment of the eligibility requirements and merit within the country priority fields. Gender equality will also be considered.
Application Procedure
Applicants can obtain forms from your National Scholarship Office, or download from

or collect forms from the Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji. All sections of the application form must be completed with certified supporting documents attached. Applications must be endorsed by the National Scholarship and/or Ministry of Foreign Affairs (External Affairs) prior to submission to the Forum Secretariat.

However, the scheme makes the final decision on the selected institution of study for successful applicants.
